I took one star off because you cannot use with your contacts in, you have to take them out and leave them out for half an hour after using the drops. A minor inconvenience if you are out and about, but the drops do make the itching stop! I them BOGO locally, so shop around for deals.

    2. Terry I. says:

I like this product a lot and keep it close by during allergy seasons. I suffer from dry eye and several allergies, mostly tree pollens. I use Alaway to help with the itching associated with the allergies. I generally use it in combination with Optive or Systane for the dry eye. If dry eye is the main symptom at the time, I find Alaway not to be the solution of choice. But if there is itching or other allergic symptoms then this generally does the job. During allergy season, I take a 10mg tablet of loratadine to help with general allergy symptoms. On bad days when the eye allergies are bad, I supplemement the Alaway eye drops with an additional antihistamine which helps. Often the greatest relief comes from applying warm/hot compresses to the eyes to wash out all the allergens.

I suffer from seasonal allergies and used to get the prescription version of Zaditor which also contains Ketotifen. Once it went OTC I started buying a Walmart brand. I also have used Patanol with Olopatadine as the active ingredient. But Patanol is really, really expensive. After my doctor told me that both Ketotifen and Olopatadine were mast cell stablizers (mast cells produce the histimine that makes your eyes itch and swell)I decided to try the OTC versions.

This version, Alaway, is even less expensive than the Walmart brand and works just as well for me.

    4. R. Waller says:

For years I suffered with pains that I thought must be caused by grains of sand under my eyelids. I kept buying Murine and lubricating eye drops but got no relief. Finally my eye doctor told me that I had allergies and recommended Alaway, one drop in each eye every morning and night. She told me that Alaway used to be a prescription-only eye drop, but is now available over the counter. This stuff works great! I have not had a single instance of feeling like I had sand in my eyes for the month or so that I have been using Alaway. If you have pains like I did, you might want to try Alaway. Can’t hurt, might help!
